How the sum works

Choose the country of your Stripe account, then the card type. The country is where your account is based, rather than where your event takes place. The EU estimate uses Stripe’s Ireland pricing page; check the pricing page for your own country before using the figure.

For a successful online card payment, the fee is amount × percentage + fixed part. We round the fee half up to the nearest penny or cent at the last step. What you receive is the payment amount minus that rounded fee. A zero amount represents no payment and no card fee.

The reverse sum starts with the amount you want in your account. Divide target plus the fixed fee by one minus the percentage rate. Then find the smallest whole penny or cent charge whose rounded fee leaves at least your target. This avoids a charge that falls a penny short. A zero target gives a zero charge.

These are standard online card rates. The estimate excludes currency conversion, manually entered cards, disputes, refunds and any other Stripe products. UK and Ireland conversion adds 2%; US conversion adds 1%, but that extra is not included here. Negotiated pricing may differ. Several tickets paid in one order share one fixed card fee, so calculate the payment amount for the whole order.

Stripe’s fee still applies on CrabGate. CrabGate adds no per-ticket fee and costs $99 a year. Ticket money goes straight to the organiser’s own Stripe account.

Worked example

For £20 on a standard UK card: £20 × 1.5% + £0.20 = £0.50. You receive £19.50. To receive £20, charge £20.51: the fee rounds to £0.51, leaving £20.00.
